Valencia is an old, old city dating back to 138 BC and it’s founding by the Romans. It became an important city during the Muslim era but suffered very much in 1600s. The people of Valencia, called Valencianos, are extremely proud of their rich and varied heritage and enjoy their independent identity and dialect Valenciano. The people also speak Spanish. This 2000 year old city is a sensational mix of the old and new, which can be seen in its architecture and infrastructure.

Modern Valencia is well connected to the rest of Europe by an excellent road network; you can travel through Spain by road quite easily from Valencia. The climate is typically Mediterranean with hot summers and mild winters.

What to expect when you arrive in Valencia: to summarize a tourist’s first impressions, you have a big city, it is the third largest in Spain, brilliant sunshine, greenery, orange groves, green parks, and loads of restaurants, bars and clubs, fantastic shopping, grand beaches and much more. Spanish cuisine is predominantly Mediterranean with lots of seafood, olive oil, olives, vegetables and rice. The Tapas restaurants are Spain’s specialty and not to be missed. Paella is a Spanish dish made of rice, meat, seafood and lots of good things. It is claimed that the best Paella comes from Valencia where it originated. Lunch is the main meal of the day in Spain and taken between 2-4 pm after which people take a siesta.
